Review: Focus Audio Liszt Sonata Integrated Amplifier

1I

“But wait a minute — repeated listenings and ruminations leave me wondering if maybe the Liszt Sonata’s sound, harmonics and all, isn’t closer to reality than that of an accurate, sterile, solid-state amplifier. The recording process, no matter how carefully done, is flawed. It’s dead easy to hear the difference between live and reproduced sound, and we music lovers spend long hours and many coupons trying to create the illusion of live music in our listening rooms. To my mind, there’s no question that music reproduced by the Liszt Sonata felt more alive, more real, than through any other amp I’ve had in my system.”

Review: Focus Audio Liszt Sonata Integrated Amplifier

1I

The Liszt Sonata, performance-wise, possesses about 95-percent of the mighty Overtures sonics, yet offers up a far greater price/performance ratio. In the final analysis, I found the Liszt Sonata to be a sonic knockout with an asking price that can honestly qualify as affordable. It's simply that good and hereby highly recommended!

Review: Focus Audio Liszt Prelude Integrated Amplifier

1I

The Liszt Prelude has plenty of headroom, which means you never become aware that the tubes are likely to run out of breath. Control of the bottom end is excellent, and theres no harshness or fog at the top end.

And one more thing: it doesnt sound like a tube amplifier. Nor should  it. What you hear sounds like music, and thats exactly what you want

  Gerard Rejskind

“No explanation is needed when we hear such a good example of the constant improvements that tubes and Focus Audio’s design provide today, in order to recreate the full impact and the elusive subtleties of the musical performance.

The glory days are now.

  Albert Simon

“The Liszt Prelude provided lots of information: a sense of fingers touching and pulling the strings of the double bass, a harmonic richness and wonderful articulation on Doug MacLeod’s voice, a subtle clarity in the dark low register of Jennifer Warnes. Although there wasn’t anything like the bass “jump” of the reference, on a few low notes by Ray Brown the low end was enchantingly rich and detailed.

This is an amp with great finesse over the whole range.”
